Gaming nerds, gather round. Change is coming, and it’s all because of blockchain. Here are five blockchain games that you can’t miss out on, because you’ll basically look like a fool in front of all of your friends...

1. CryptoKitties

If you can’t find it in you to actually adopt a pet, there’s finally an alternative to binging on cat videos: CryptoKitties, of course! If you know anything about blockchain, you know about CryptoKitties...but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop talking about cats! With this pioneer blockchain game, you can breed and collect the furry little guys, and best of all, you don’t even have to deal with the smell of actual cat litter.

You can buy, sell, trade, and even breed CyproKitties like traditional collectibles, with some even valued at over $150k. In fact, back in September of 2018 when Ethereum was valued at around $300 – a whopping three times its value today – one player purchased a CryptoKitty named Dragon for 600 ETH. But here’s what's most important: blockchain will track ownership securely, meaning nobody can mess with your brand-new and genetically unique fluffballs. It’s like Tamagotchi on steroids. Start meow.

2. HashCraft

If you think the world could use some improvements, but you haven’t managed to become the reigning leader of whatever country you live in, download HashCraft. This game, developed by Ubisoft, allows you to create your very own island, and even craft challenges that visitors to your island can compete in. Once you decide to make your masterpiece publicly available, anybody can visit it!

And no worries, your little piece of paradise isn’t going anywhere. Every part of the island and gaming experience is stored on the blockchain, and is decentralized. That means that even if a server goes down, the record of your island won’t disappear. Looking to make money? Well, players can receive virtual currency for uploading their island, and even charge entrance fees to visitors who want to try out new challenges. It looks like there finally is a way to become Prime Minister, but people may still hate you for the taxes.

3. Spells of Genesis

If you’re naturally cunning, but also want to make sure that no-one can mess with your fantasy world, start playing Spells of Genesis. This mobile blockchain game is basically a card trading game, mixed with some good old arcade-style gaming. Collect, trade, and combine orbs to build the strongest deck possible, and then fight it out against opponents while making your way through the fantasy realm of Askian. As per usual, blockchain has got your back, ensuring that even the most dangerous enemies won’t be able to alter your deck.

4. Itadaki Dungeon

Everyone wants to make money while having fun, and now gamers can finally make that happen with Itadaki Dungeon. Players can earn bitcoins as they attempt to beat roughly 3,000 courses. While making their way through a 2D medieval landscape, little bitcoins appear and characters can snatch those shiny coins to add to their collected items.

Each bitcoin treasure contains small, but real, micro-bits of BTC. Not too bad for a free game. Itadaki Dungeon already has a 4.1 rating on the Google Play and iOS app store, so clearly, money talks. But don’t expect to be a Bitcoin millionaire overnight – apparently you’ve got to play a lot of courses to make bank.

5. Augmentors

If you are guilty of once having had an unhealthy relationship with Pokemon Go, then you are going to love Augmentors. This augmented reality combat game has a collection of 50 monsters, cyborgs, and Gods to choose from, along with a ton of custom characters that players can even make. Using creature tokens, players can barter, buy, and sell these little beasts, through low-cost and trust-free transfers on the blockchain. Best of all, community players can even get paid for their contributions. Augmentors hasn’t been released yet, but has already raised a ton of money through an advanced token sale last year. So, it may be time to prepare your significant other for some long nights alone as you search for cyborgs. Pokemon Go is so last year.
